Information for Competitors

The Univest Grand Prix is a UCI 1.2 road race for six-man teams. The race was amateur for the first eight years and became an UCI America Tour event in 2005. Now in its 13th year, it is one of only seven professional UCI (International Cycling Union) races on the USA Cycling Professional Tour calendar. The Univest Grand Prix is open to UCI Professional Continental, Continental, National, Regional, and Club teams by Invitation only. The Race Direction focuses on bringing together the best racers from North, South and Central America and mixing them with excited and motivated challengers from Europe. The racing at the Univest Grand Prix is always tactical and brutally hard. In 1998 three riders were ahead of the field to contest the finish: since then, only two-man sprints or solo rides have won the race.

Many young riders have won professional contracts with their performances at the Univest. The race will always strive to maintain its position as a gateway to the pros for driven young talent.

The area community is involved through athletes staying with local families and visiting grade schools to speak about their sport.

The race weekend begins with the UCI 1.2 Univest Grand Prix on Saturday. The new format race will consist of 11 laps of the 5.8-mile Souderton-Franconia-Telford racecourse followed by 5 laps of the finishing 3.8-mile Souderton-Telford circuit for a total of 83 miles / 133 kilometers.

The Univest Grand Prix features live television coverage on WFMZ-69, and WFMZ.com, with a post-event show on Comcast SportsNet.

The highly successful Univest Criterium of Doylestown will be in its seventh year in 2010 and is open only to competitors that finish the Univest Grand Prix road race. Rider substitutions are prohibited for the criterium.

Interested team managers should contact Sparta Cycling at amy@spartacycling.com.

The races will only be open to Pro/1 riders only. Riders will need an UCI or USAC International license to compete. Team managers will need the appropriate license from the UCI or USAC to drive a car in the team caravan. Please see UCI regulations 1.1.077 and 2.2.035 or this USAC webpage. There will be no exceptions to these regulations.
